Such a touching essay, Monica!!

Love the message, Monica--the "perfect" wine isn't always textbook, but a combination of the moment and the mood.

Hi! I 'discovered' your blog just today. I found it through a link on Julie Powell's blog. Basically I'm a university student and an amateur cook who is always on the lookout for good food blogs. Anyways just thought I'd say hi! Oh and I love this blogpost, it's so touching!

Lovely essay, Monica...I always talk about not being perfect in the kitchen, because that is--sometimes--where the magic happens. Same goes for the wine...

This was wonderful. Wine is a mystery to me as well, and I'm always baffled by people who can read it like a book. The words are foreign to me, though occasionally I pick up a phrase or two that I understand. "The woodsy wine played devil’s songs down my gullet." This line in particular caught me, because I've experienced it so many times but could not put it into words.

What a lovely story about wine, food, family and intimacy. Fabulous!
