Can food bring us luck? Well, there is only one way to find out! Eat it and see what happens :-)

I am so thrilled to announce my online month column with Scripp Network’s Cooking Channel focusing on, yes, you guessed it: LUCKY FOODS!! While most lucky foods are associated with the New Year, I tried hard to find foods that bring us luck through the year! For many of the months, I succeeded, for some, I did not!

I learned a lot. Almonds and coins are hidden in cakes, a whole cooked fish has to be pointed a certain way to be lucky, twelve grapes eaten at the right time can bring good luck, and oh, never cut your noodles! We talked to people around the world and are delighted to bring you amazing stories, great recipes and with great hope: a lot of luck!

I am very grateful to my amazing and talented researcher Andrea Lynn, my supremely talented photographer Kankana Saxena, my friend Kathy for suggesting I do a story on lucky foods and to Debra Puchalla for having faith in me.

My sincere thanks to the ARMY of recipe testers who made sure each recipe rocks. Thank you so much. I am indebted to you.

Thanks so much to Suzanne Fass for her meticulous copy editing on this project.

So without further delay, here it is… I will be updating this post with new links as the months go by!

1. The Luckiest Food to Eat in January

2. Dumplings for the Chinese New Year for Feb

3. Persian Soup for Nouroz (Persian New year) for March

Hey Monica,

Congrats on the new column! Your first dish looks delicious — I’m a big sauerkraut fan. Happy New Year!
