An essay of mine that ran in Parents magazine a while ago generated more mail than i have received on any other piece I have ever written. The essay was about my son wanting a sibling and our journey to getting there.

It is a piece that is close to my heart..

I hope you will read the article and post your comments here.

UPDATE – The essay is now available online – http://www.parents-digital.com/parents/200911?pg=90#pg90

I LOVED your article. We are still TTC Baby #2 and our 7 year old Daughter is a lot like your son. Your story gave me hope, thank you!

Thank you for writing your story. I just finished reading it and was in tears! It took us two years to have our daughter and I am not sure if we can have any more kids which makes me feel guilty as a mom. I will keep this article to inspire me to keep trying when it gets hard! I am so glad you have your perfect family and were blessed with two beautiful children!

After four miscarriages I had my oldest (now 26) and thought I would never have another child and had two more miscarriages trying. I was so happy to find out I was pregnant 7 years later only to find out I had cancer. Against my doctor’s advice, I had my son (now 19) and then got treatment. Now I am a proud grandmother to a beautiful boy as well (6). I love my family and say – yes – there is hope even when all hope seems lost. Enjoy your family.

Such a beautifully written and deeply moving essay. Distraction has been my state of mind recently — this reminds me to take a deep breath and consider the story I am living with my family, and its many blessings. I especially love the opening with the art exhibit, and the ending with the essay both connecting home and family to school and the wider world.

What a lovely article and what a thoughtful loving son and big brother you and your husband are raising Monica.

To those who have one child and wish for a second, no children and wish for one or any other combination — you ALL have a perfect family as a perfect family is however you define it to be. No one else can define a perfect family for you or anyone else. Some perfect families have no children, some have one, some have more, some have a cat or a dog. Some perfect families have a mom and a dad, a mom or a dad, two moms or two dads. Whatever your situation, if there is love, you already have a perfect family.

What a beautfiul story! It left me misty-eyed. This reminded me so much of when my oldest son was little, and I was expecting a second baby. Thanks for sharing such precious moments! You have a lovely family & are blessed in so many ways, Monica! Enjoy those boys, they grow up too fast. Way too fast :-)
